Street line limit
a. In the event that the local authority has decided to post certain roads within the jurisdiction of the local authority in a way that is convenient for traffic, the declaration of a surveyor’s plot delineating the parts of the jurisdiction of the local authority, by making markings on the map of the area expected to be published in the future of the roads, those roads The local government has decided to determine the amount of land to be included in the respective parties from the lands located on both sides. A notification to that effect should be published in the Gazette and newspaper notices. After taking this decision, the boundary line drawn in the respective survey plot is called the street line. The portion of land from the center of a certain road to the boundary of the street line determined by this street line will be subject to selection by the local authority at some future date. For this reason, no construction is allowed in this area.
b. At present street lines in Sri Lanka are designated only by the Municipal Councils of Dehiwala – Mt. The local government body of the country has not fixed the street lines so far.
Building limit
1. Local authorities will not allow any construction within a specified distance from the center line of a road within their jurisdiction. This limit is known as building limit. Within the jurisdiction of a Urban Council and Local council, the building limit is twenty-five feet (7.62 meters) from the center line of the road on either side.
2. In the case of a road belonging to another authority, in case the building limit is not fixed by that authority, the aforesaid limit shall be valid for every road already maintained and proposed within the jurisdiction of the local authority.
3. Likewise, in relation to an urban development area, under the authority received from the Urban Development Authority Act No. 41 of 1978, the Minister in charge of the relevant subject has set building limits in relation to the roads located within the parts to which the development plan of that area applies.
4. Furthermore, building restrictions have been set by that institution in relation to the roads owned by the Road Development Authority, and in relation to the roads belonging to the Provincial Road Development Authority in any province.

1. 252 Section 69 of the Municipalities Ordinance which is the authority.
2. 268 Authority Section 19 of the Housing and Urban Development Ordinance and Rule 8 of the Rules made thereunder.
(b) Building Limit:
1. 74 (1) (a) of the Municipal Council Ordinance, which is the authority of 255;
2. Section 49 of the Regional Councils Act No. 15 of 1987.
3. Under the Urban Development Authority Act No. 41 of 1978, the limit specified in the development plan approved and promulgated by the Minister for a certain urban development area;
4. Regarding the roads belonging to the Road Development Authority, the building limit prescribed and approved by that authority;
5. In respect of the roads belonging to any provincial road development authority, the building limit prescribed by that authority has been approved.
